Rhumerie de Chamarel
In the south west of Mauritius in the middle of the beautiful landscape of Chamarel, lies the Rhumerie de Chamarel. Located in the South West of Mauritius, Chamarel is not only famous for the “coloured earth” and its waterfalls but also for its vast plantations of sugar cane and other plantations of tropical fruits including pineapple.
Enjoy a guided-tour visit at La Rhumerie de Chamarel and get a detailed explanation of the rum making process while witnessing it. The special thing about the rum from Chamarel is that it is purely ecological and therefore a high quality rum. La Rhumerie de Chamarel is among the few distilleries that still cultivate its sugarcane exclusively for rum production. One of the secret for the high quality of the rum produced at La Rhumerie de Chamarel is the fact that the sugar canes are selected with much care. It is interesting to note that harvesting is done by hand. In this way, the Master Blender is able to identify and select the finest ones for the different types of rums produced at La Rhumerie. The secret of the high quality is in the special earth of the domaine where the sugar cane grows.
The tours and the rum making process are explained in both English and French. The guided tour may last from 30 to 40 minutes.
At the end of the tour, you will have the opportunity to taste a selection of the agricultural Rums produced by the distillery such as White Rum, Coeur de Chauffe, Chamarel Liquors, Exotic- Flavoured Rums and the Old Rum.
