PORLWI BY LIGHT – “PORT LOUIS BY LIGHT”

Do not miss the 2nd edition of Porlwi by Light (which means Port Louis, our capital city, by Light) from 02 December 2016 t0 04 December 2016. It is a festival of contemporary culture held every year since 2015, with the collaboration of both the private and public sectors namely the Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority (MTPA), Ministry of Tourism and the Municipality of Port louis.

The purpose of this event is to put forward the cultural, touristic, educational and socioeconomic attributes of our beautiful capital city. Grab the opportunity to go down the streets of Port Louis to discover a collection of various talents united together for one common purpose that is Culture and the love for Mauritius.

The theme of this 2nd edition is “People” and emphasis is placed on the multicultural aspects of Mauritius as well as its history. It is the occasion to eliminate all cultural, social and generational barriers. All age groups will find their joy in this beautiful light festival. The beauty of Port-Louis will be revealed through a dazzling game of lights in its narrow streets, palm laced avenues and waterfront.

An area of about 50,000m2 of pedestrian zone will be decorated with artistic creations, light installations, projections, concerts and exhibitions. Apart from the other cultural stalls, each section has been designed following a particular theme, as follows:

Chapter 1: The Port

Chapter 2: Place D’Armes

Chapter 3: Company Garden

Chapter 4: The Port Louis Theatre

Chapter 5: The Old Prison

Chapter 6: Aapravasi Ghat

Chapter 7: The Granary

Chapter 8: The Caudan Waterfront

Chapter 9: The IBL Parking

The focus of this year is to explore the origins and identity of the Mauritians people. It also aims to reflect on our interconnections with nature and technology and the relationship with one another.
